Sliding Genioplasty: Chin Advancement

A sliding genioplasty repositions the bone of the chin itself, rather than adding an implant over it. The lower part of the chin bone is separated from the jaw and moved to a new position. The teeth and the bite are not changed. This case was planned on a 3D model from the CT scan; in the surgical plan, the chin (pogonion) moves 7.0 mm forward. The patient’s wish was a more pronounced chin.

Before and planned

A sliding genioplasty, planned on a 3D model from his CT scan, to bring the chin forward while leaving the teeth and the bite unchanged.

Surgical plan

The chin position was planned on a 3D model from the CT scan. The upper and lower jaws and the teeth are not moved in this plan; only the chin segment is repositioned, with a planned forward movement of 7.0 mm at pogonion, the most forward point of the chin.
